How do I apply for an Education Entrepreneur Fellowship?

The first step in the application process for The Mind Trust’s Education Entrepreneur Fellowship is to submit a Statement of Intent by 6 p.m. EST on Friday, September 5, 2008. The Mind Trust reviews all Statements of Intent and invites select candidates to submit Full Applications. Invited candidates are required to submit Full Applications by 6 p.m. EST on Friday, October 17, 2008. Throughout the application process, some candidates may be interviewed informally by The Mind Trust staff and expert reviewers. After submitting a Full Application, select candidates will be asked to participate in a formal interview before The Mind Trust’s Fellowship Selection Committee.

What are the key dates in the Fellowship selection process?

By September 5 Candidates must submit a Statement of Intent online.
By September 19 Select candidates are invited to submit Full Applications.
By October 17 Invited candidates must submit Full Applications online; all written letters of recommendation must be received.
By December 1 Candidates will be notified about final Fellowship decisions.

May I submit a Statement of Intent before the September 5, 2008 deadline?

What happens after I submit a Statement of Intent?

You will receive an email acknowledging The Mind Trust’s receipt of the Statement of Intent. The Mind Trust staff may contact candidates after Statements of Intent are received to gather additional information or conduct informal interviews, either in person or by telephone, with the candidates. Candidates will be notified by September 19, 2008 if they have been invited to submit Full Applications. Only candidates who are invited to submit Full Applications are eligible to do so.

May I submit the Full Application before the October 17, 2008 deadline?

Yes. Candidates who are invited to submit Full Applications are welcome to submit Full Applications anytime up to the deadline on October 17, 2008. To view the information required in the Full Application, please click here.  To begin submitting the Full Application, click here.

Do I need to complete the Full Application all at one time?

No. When you submit a Statement of Intent or begin work on a Full Application, you establish a login name and password. As you complete the questions, you may save your work and return later to continue entering your responses. Only when you are satisfied with your responses do you need to submit them to The Mind Trust.

Do you require written letters of recommendation?

Candidates invited to submit full applications must submit three written letters of recommendation. Please click here for instructions on how to submit letters of recommendation.

What happens after I submit my Full Application?

You will receive an email acknowledging The Mind Trust’s receipt of your Full Application. Candidates may be asked to participate in informal interviews, either in person or by telephone. Select candidates will be asked to participate in a formal interview before The Mind Trust’s Fellowship Selection Committee. This interview will take place in Indianapolis. Candidates will be expected to pay their own travel expenses to and from the interview.

Who makes the final selection of fellows?

The Mind Trust’s Education Entrepreneur Fellowship applications are reviewed by staff and outside experts engaged by The Mind Trust. In addition, candidates may be interviewed during the selection process by The Mind Trust’s staff and a Fellowship Selection Committee that The Mind Trust forms. Ultimately, The Mind Trust’s Board of Directors makes the final decision on the candidates chosen for the Education Entrepreneur Fellowship.

How many fellows will be selected in the second cohort of fellows?

The Mind Trust plans to offer at least three Fellowships for the second cohort. The Mind Trust may award more or fewer Fellowships depending on the circumstances. Additional Fellowships will be awarded in future application cycles.

Will The Mind Trust share any information submitted by fellows with anyone not part of the Fellowship application review process?

No. All information submitted to The Mind Trust by fellows will be kept strictly confidential.
