Why Indianapolis is a Great Place to Build a Network of Life-Changing Schools
Supply of Entrepreneurial Talent
Indianapolis has a high concentration of entrepreneurial education reform talent and ventures, many of whom were brought to the city by The Mind Trust, including Teach For America, The New Teacher Project/Indianapolis Teaching Fellows, Teach Plus, Stand for Children, College Summit and Summer Advantage USA. This vibrant network, joined by The Mind Trust’s Education Entrepreneur Fellows and our Venture Partners, is working collaboratively to change educational outcomes for children across the city.
Charter-Friendly Legislative Landscape
With all the recent education reform legislation in the state, Indiana was just ranked as one friendliest states to Charter school expansion in a study conducted by The Center for Education Reform.
In 2011, Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels and Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Bennett spearheaded and passed an ambitious education reform agenda that provides more facilities support and funding for charter schools and opens the door for charter schools to offer higher-quality options where students have fallen behind for too long. The Mind Trust’s Charter School Incubator and its award-winning leadership teams will be well positioned to meet the surge in demand for high-quality charter operators that result from these legislative changes.
