What is a charter school?

Charter Schools

Charter schools are free, autonomous public schools that operate independent of traditional school district policies and have the flexibility to educate students in innovative ways while being held accountable for advancing student achievement. Charter schools are exempt from many state rules and regulations, giving school leaders the autonomy and flexibility to create entirely new models for instruction that meet specific student needs.

The Mind Trust created our Charter School Incubator in 2011 to launch and expand excellent public charter schools in Indianapolis. Currently, our Charter School Fellowship supports the development or replication of high-quality charter schools in Indianapolis.
