TFA recruits top college graduates who commit to teaching for two years in low-income urban and rural public schools. In the process, TFA recruits become lifelong advocates for education equity. Since 2008, TFA has supported 500+ teachers who have taught at least one year in Marion County. Additionally, TFA’s Indianapolis Principal Fellowship has supported 39 exceptional school leaders who are serving Indianapolis schools. The Mind Trust recruited TFA to Indianapolis in 2007.
TNTP draws talented professionals from non-education backgrounds to become teachers in high-need subject areas such as math, science, foreign language and special education. TNTP also works with districts and states to improve recruitment and retention of high-quality teachers by researching and publishing reports on topics such as teacher evaluation. In doing this work, the Indiana State Board of Education selected TNTP to serve as a lead partner at four Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) to help improve performance at those schools. TNTP worked in partnership at another IPS school to support its leadership and instructional coaching. TNTP also partnered with the district for principal professional development and helped the state design its new evaluation system. TNTP’s Indianapolis Teaching Fellows program has supported 375+ Indianapolis teachers since 2007, several of whom have been school or district teachers of the year.
