Sonja Peters (she/her/hers)
Senior Director of School Incubation
As Senior Director of School Incubation, Sonja manages the Innovation and Charter School Fellowships, Education Empowerment Awards, and all other investments that support the launch of high-quality public schools in Indianapolis with the ultimate goal of significantly increasing the number of Indianapolis students who attend a high-quality public school.
Before joining The Mind Trust, Sonja was a resource community impact coordinator at United Way of Central Indiana, where she managed and coordinated education initiative special projects.
Sonja previously served as resource coordinator at United Way of Dekalb County, where she recruited and organized volunteers, planned special events, and assisted with fundraising and marketing goals. As a case manager with the YWCA of Northeast Indiana she provided residential adult and child clients with domestic violence support services to assist them with moving from crisis to stability. Sonja holds a bachelor’s degree in human services from Purdue University and a master’s degree in public management from Indiana University. Originally from Bosnia and Herzegovina, she now resides in Indianapolis with her husband and daughter.
