New hire to lead The Mind Trust’s communications strategy

Indianapolis – (August 12, 2019) – The Mind Trust, an Indianapolis-based education nonprofit, has hired Kateri Whitley as Director of Communications. Whitley will lead The Mind Trust’s internal and external communications efforts across the organization to support its work of attracting and training world-class talent, launching and supporting high-quality schools, and engaging the Indianapolis community.

In her role, Whitley will execute a local and national communications and brand strategy to support The Mind Trust’s robust partnerships in Indianapolis, talent attraction and school development efforts, and position as a leader in advancing educational equity.  She will also work closely with the community engagement team to promote events, support the work of The Mind Trust’s Fellows, and enlist stakeholder involvement in the organization’s efforts to transform the city’s education system so that every student can attend a great school.

“We are very fortunate to have Kateri as part of our team,” said Shannon Williams, Senior Vice President of Community Engagement. “She has a solid communications background, understands the education landscape, and is incredibly passionate about ensuring youth have access to equitable educational opportunities. She is a tremendous asset to The Mind Trust.”

Previously, Whitley spent eight years with Providence Cristo Rey High School, most recently as Director of Marketing & Alumni Outreach. There, she enhanced the school’s strategic communications plan to meet fundraising, community partnership, and enrollment goals and established the framework for its alumni outreach initiatives. In 2018, she was selected as the school’s Staff Member of the Year.

Whitley serves on the Marketing Committee of the Indianapolis Cultural Trail’s Young Professionals Board and was a member of Class VII of IndyHub’s civic leadership program, the 1828 Project. She holds a B.A. in Public Relations from Xavier University.
