Engaging neighborhoods & communities
Intentional and meaningful community support and involvement are vital when addressing barriers that make it harder for children to learn and pursue their dreams.
That’s why The Mind Trust actively invests in and partners with schools, nonprofits, educators, students, and families to ensure they are at the forefront of education advocacy and change.
How you can get involved
The Mind Trust hosts a number of events to expose our city’s leaders and stakeholders to the issues facing public schools in Indianapolis. We also provide financial support to help schools and community partners come together to serve students well.
Partnership Spotlight: Journalism Academy for Writing and Storytelling (JAWS)
The Mind Trust is proud to partner with The Indianapolis Recorder, one of the nation’s oldest Black newspapers and Indiana’s longest continuously operating African American publication, to revive the Journalism Academy for Writing and Storytelling (JAWS). JAWS provides students with hands-on experience in journalism and multimedia storytelling, including reporting, interviewing, writing, photography, video, podcasting, and digital media. Student work will be published by the Indianapolis Recorder Newspaper. In the 2026-2027 school year, the program will work with students from KIPP Legacy High.
The program is designed to expose students to careers in journalism, communications, public relations, broadcasting, and digital media, while building transferable workplace skills.
School Community Partnership Investments
The Mind Trust awards School Community Partnership Investments to increase partnerships between K–12 public schools, community-based organizations, nonprofits, and churches in Indianapolis.
