The Mind Trust awards $15,000 to expand student access to Boys & Girls Clubs of Indianapolis programs

INDIANAPOLIS—(June 12, 2019)—The Mind Trust, an Indianapolis-based education nonprofit, today announced that it has selected the Boys & Girls Clubs of Indianapolis (BGCI) to receive a $15,000 School-Community Partnership Investment to expand its programming for students attending charter and Innovation Network Schools in Indianapolis. Through this partnership, not only will more Indianapolis students have a safe place to go after school, but more students will be able to participate in BGCI’s transformative educational and character-building programs.

“We are very excited to provide this award to our local Boys & Girls Clubs,” said Shannon Williams, Senior Vice President of Community Engagement at The Mind Trust. “Area youth will have access to additional academic support, which is incredibly important. In addition, this award will help alleviate the tension that many working parents face when it comes to finding affordable, safe, and enriching after-school activities for their children.”

This investment from The Mind Trust will help to ensure that more students at charter and Innovation Network Schools receive help with homework and additional study time during BGCI’s Power Hour, a program instituted at all Clubs meant to boost school readiness and academic performance. With this expansion, BGCI will serve more than 2,700 students across Indianapolis through its Power Hour program.

“Our organization is incredibly grateful for the generous support The Mind Trust has provided. Creating opportunities to positively impact our kiddos is top of mind for us. We are incredibly fortunate to partner with one of the city’s most successful education entities in an effort to provide better outcomes for students and their families,” said Maggie A. Lewis, CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Indianapolis.

The Mind Trust’s School-Community Partnership Investments are one-time awards that empower valued community organizations to create programs that expand educational opportunities for students and families. Recognizing the vital role community partnerships play in the long-term success of schools, The Mind Trust awards School-Community Partnership Investments to facilitate the development of deep, impactful, and reciprocal partnerships between community organizations and schools.
