Engaging the Community

Engaging the Communities and Neighborhoods We Serve

Great schools should be the center of great neighborhoods. They can serve as a community hub and a rallying point for a neighborhood. What’s more, community support and involvement are vital to the success of each and every school.

That’s why The Mind Trust actively engages the neighborhoods and communities we serve to ensure they have an active voice in the innovation of their local schools. We host community conversations, bus tours and other events to help expose our city’s leaders and stakeholders to the issues facing public schools in Indianapolis. We also help lead community discussions on education public policy and other issues that affect education and Indianapolis families.

Two major ways that we engage the community are through our Education Bus Tour series and our Community Conversations.

Education Tours

The Mind Trust hosts a series of Education Tours that highlight high-quality public schools in Indianapolis for parents, educators, and community members.

Each tour visits successful public schools in Indianapolis to demonstrate innovative and effective techniques and practices in action.

The tours have been a powerful mechanism for highlighting the work of excellent schools and showing leaders in the community what is possible in schools with the right conditions for success. Through these tours, hundreds of community members have been exposed to the work of great local schools and have deepened their understanding of The Mind Trust’s work.

The tours are co-sponsored by Indianapolis Public Schools, UNCF, 100 Black Men of Indianapolis, La Plaza, and The Expectations Project.

Community Conversations

The Mind Trust regularly engages Indianapolis leaders, stakeholders and parents in Community Conversations that explore various topics in education and innovative ideas and programs that can help improve public education in Indianapolis and beyond.
