Teacher preparation programs
The Mind Trust has recruited three national nonprofit teacher training programs to Indianapolis
to help recruit and prepare exceptional talent for our schools. Teach For America Indianapolis, TNTP’s Indianapolis Teaching Fellows, and Relay Graduate School of Education’s Teaching Residency have created critical teacher pipelines for Indianapolis schools.
Teach For America Indianapolis
Teach For America (TFA) has been training teachers to serve in Indianapolis classrooms since 2008. In a little more than a decade, they have built a member base of over 700 educators. Corp members work toward earning a master’s degree while teaching in the classroom.

- Has teachers in 21 Indianapolis schools
- 44% of their current cohort are of teachers of color
TNTP’s Indianapolis Teaching Fellows
TNTP’s Indianapolis Teaching Fellows (ITF), launched in 2007, has propelled more than 600 educators into the classroom. Teachers work toward earning a master’s degree while teaching in the classroom.
- 14th cohort completing service in Indianapolis during the 2020-21 school year
- Has teachers in 40 Indianapolis schools
- 60% of their current cohort are teachers of color
Relay Graduate School of Education
Relay Graduate School of Education (GSE) is the newest teacher preparation program to call Indy home. They began training teachers in fall 2019, utilizing a residency model where teacher residents spend their first year in the classroom learning from a master teacher before leading a classroom during their second year of the program, all while pursuing master’s level coursework.

- Has teachers in 6 Indianapolis schools
- 100% of their current cohort are teachers of color
