Charter schools are free, autonomous public school that operates independent of traditional school district policies and have the flexibility to educate students while being held accountable for advancing student achievement. Charter schools are free from many state rules and regulations, giving school leaders the autonomy and flexibility to create entirely new models for instruction that meet specific student needs.

The Mind Trust created our Charter School Incubator in 2011 to launch and expand excellent public charter schools in Indianapolis. It provides two pathways to launch charter schools: the Charter School Design Challenge, which seeks “break-the-mold”, never-before-seen charter school models; and the Charter School Fellowship,  which supports the development or replication of high-quality charter schools in Indianapolis.
